We are very excited to announce this special class on drawing hats on models!

Taught by Sue Dray – the lady who defines cool, who mashes punk and elegance with effortless ease, and all the while with a charm and friendliness that both relaxes and inspires her students. Sue will be looking at how a hat sits on a head in regards to its function, and the story it’s telling.

We will touch on techniques – the space the hat takes up exterior to the head, the width, the height, the negative space, the details, and some quick tips on rendering fabrics. But mostly we will be encouraged to use our imaginations – and use the hats as inspiration – to find our own flamboyant styles, be it whimsical or wild, demure or decadent.
Sue will bring some of her original artworks, in her signature style that combines strong lines with painterly textures and bright, contrasting colour, focusing on the haptic of creating.

Sahar will model hats in varying colours, textures, styles, and silhouettes, and we will focus on the hat, head, neck, shoulders, and some arm and hands within the poses.

Sue regularly draws backstage at London Fashion Week for Vivienne Westwood and many other top designers. She has illustrated for 40 years, has been published countless times and has work archived at the British Library. Sue was course leader at London College of Fashion for 7 years.
